Christie Dewar, Associate

I have worked in the insurance world since starting my articling year right after law school. Prior to joining CBM Lawyers, I worked as in-house insurance defence counsel at an insurance company. That experience gave me a real understanding of the needs of insurers and the pressures they face. Now back in private practice, I strive to meet those needs every day by balancing the desire to resolve a claim quickly with ensuring defence costs and awards are appropriate. I have been involved in files with claims for bodily injuries, property damage, MVAs, fire losses, subrogation, coverage, slip and falls, dog bites, lawyer professional negligence, among others, and I am always looking to expand the scope of my experience. I pride myself in staying on top of files and finding ways to prompt opposing counsel to take action if a file becomes stagnant. My science background gives me a head start when assessing a new BI file, and my attention to detail helps me find the key pieces of evidence needed to successfully defend a claim. The variety of claims I see and the many skills it takes to move a file to resolution makes each day different, exciting and challenging.
