Update to Court Procedures in Alberta

Resumption of Masters / Justice Chambers

The Court of Queen’s Bench has recently announced that they will be hosting regular chambers applications via Webex, provided the application can be heard in less than 20 minutes. The Court is working on a procedure for special applications and expects to announce further procedures in the near future. The Court will also continue to accept contested applications via written submissions.

The Court has outfitted certain courtrooms for trials and is working on expanding their capacity in this regard.

Suspension of Filing Deadlines

The Court of Queen’s Bench has extended the suspension of all filing deadlines, excluding those applicable to the commencement of proceedings, to June 26, 2020. The Chief Justice has indicated that the Court does not expect to extend this deadline, though no formal announcement has yet been made.
